Arts and Culture

Residents of Lethbridge and area enjoy a variety of performing and visual arts, cultural events and attractions in venues across the city. Casa

A new and exciting interdisciplinary art centre that is a gathering place for the city’s thriving and vibrant arts community. Opened in Spring 2013, this versatile 42,000 square foot venue supports community arts education and offers facility bookings for meetings and events.  Casa serves a multi-generational community across various disciplines of art, music, drama and dance and is home to the University of Lethbridge Conservatory of Music. This unique facility has truly become an impressive presence in the downtown core.

 

Fort Whoop-Up

An authentic replica of a fort built by Montana traders in 1874, and provides displays, historic re-enactments, and horse-drawn park tours. It serves as the focal point to Lethbridge’s Indian Battle Park, a large area of parkland and nature reserve bisecting the city.

 

The Galt Museum

Newly renovated and expanded in 2006, the Galt Museum and Archives offers world class exhibits and amazing programs for all ages. The main Viewing Gallery provides visitors the ultimate vantage point to view our big skies and gentle coulee curvature of the Old Man River valley.

 

The Lethbridge Public Library

With two branches, one in the heart of downtown and the other in the growing Crossings area in west Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Public Library connects people to ideas through forums, art gallery shows and children’s programs. As the home to bestsellers, the hottest box office movies and eResources, the library is a welcoming space in which to study, research, work, relax and enjoy life.  

 

Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra

Residents of southern Alberta are justly proud of the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, a true community orchestra that combines the talents of many of this area's finest musicians.  With the exception of the resident professional quartet and the principal players, the local members of the orchestra play on a volunteer basis.  

Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens

Established in 1967, the Nikka Yuko is a place of contemplation and peace and commemorates the contributions of Japanese-Canadians to the rich cultural make-up of southern Alberta. 

The Southern Alberta Art Gallery

Located in beautiful downtown Lethbridge, The SAAG has an international reputation for its excellent contemporary art programs and displays.

University of Lethbridge Centre for the Arts

Musical performances, theatre productions, fine arts, new media presentations and opera between September and June each year.

Yates and Sterndale Bennett Theatres

Each year the 500-seat Yates Theatre hosts 2,000 hours of cultural events, gallery receptions and performances by the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, New West Theatre, Lethbridge Musical Theatre, Playgoers of Lethbridge, the Kiwanis Music Festival, dance competitions and shows and other events.
